Why does anyone hire a wedding photographer? Why doesn't the groom or mother-of-the-bride take the photos? It's laughable to think about the groom taking your wedding photos, right, so why would you have him taking the photos the day his baby is born?
Wouldn't you rather see the tears on his face when he holds his baby for the first time, or the kiss he gives you the moment he becomes a dad? You will need him to focus on you during labor, not focusing on taking photos. You need him to hold YOU, not the camera. Having a birth photographer allows dad to be *IN* the photos because it's his story too. It allows your family to stay focused on you when you are your most vulnerable and need love and support.
Just like your wedding photographer, you hire a birth photographer who is experienced. You need to know she has done this over and over and knows what to watch for and capture the moments you will cherish forever. You need someone you trust to share this very personal day with you. You want someone to be your eyes for the things you will miss from your hospital bed -- your spouse snoozing while you snooze, your parents pacing outside your room, and the tears in the waiting room when your husband delivers the news that the baby is here!! You want someone who knows what little details help make up the story of this day. I have been Augusta's only dedicated birth photographer since 2011.
Like a wedding, birth photography is an *event*. It is dozens of images documenting the 6, 10, or even 16-hour day of your labor, delivery, and the first two hours in your new roles as PARENTS! The images are beautiful and emotional and powerful. This milestone day deserves more than cell phone snapshots.
Your baby's birth will become one of the most important days of your life. It's worth investing in.
I'd be honored to document this day for you, Jennifer Crow
